I remember years ago fishing for black bream at the mouth of the Hopkins River, Western Victoria. The river was swollen because sand movement had blocked the opening, and the water was a bit colored, which was encouraging large bream onto the flats. In those days not many people realised that bream were genuine lure fishing targets, but a small group of us had been experimenting and were consistently catching good bream on hard baits. These days hard or soft baits are almost the ONLY way to fish for bream, few people bother with smelly natural baits any more!

Are All Lure Making Timbers Born Equal?

I know this seems like a dumb question, but it's amazing how few people give any real thought to what type of timber they should use for their lure making! But the type of wood you select be the difference between an ok lure and one that's an absolute winner!

In fact, if you're really serious about your luremaking you certainly wouldn't limit yourself to a single timber - I use several different ones, depending on the intended use of my lure.
