Collectors will look at companies or manufacturers when looking for fishing equipment to display or for their historical interest, focusing on a few. The antique fishing lures that are more usually sought after include the Creek Chubb, Heddon, Jamison, Moonlight, Pflueger, Shakespeare and South Bend. Enthusiasts also look at smaller manufacturers as they are still extremely collectible. Across North America they go to meetings at conferences and some shows, with some even going internationally.

If the lures come in their original boxes it makes them worth more in value. Today most lures just come in plastic packaging, but the originally were full of beautiful designs which were printed. They also gave the production date, history of the lure, plus some extra fishing tips and strategies printed individually on the boxes which were made of either cardboard or metal. Even the lures come without their original containers, they are still quite valuable.

If you want to collect antique fishing lures you should consider these points:

. When you start this hobby it is a good idea to read up on books, study which lures are the real genuine article, learn how they are appraised and valued through collectors groups.

. Join an organisation such as the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club so that you can obtain background information that is useful for learning how best to trade and value the antique lures that you get hold of for your collection.

. Check out estate and garage sales where you're to find a treasure of a rare lure or an old tackle box that hasn't been used for years. You will probably get a bargain price for the whole lot rather than just buying an individual lure.

. If you plan to use these antique lures for actual fishing, make sure you know their real worth before you take them out for your next catch.

With antique it is important not to restore, repaint, repair or tamper with the antique fishing lure as you are sure to decrease its value, so leave them in the condition you received them in, instead of trying to make them look better if they are going to be sold and traded.

Extraordinary condition on the bait and box, sold through the Norvell-Shapleigh Hardware Company. Marketed as the Ultra Casting Minnow, this 3-hook, round body F.C. Woods Expert minnow is finished in solid aluminum with bright red hand-painted gill marks. Other than paint off the belly weight, this early minnow rigged with no-hole bow-tie props and non-detachable hooks is solid excellent. Wood slide top box is also in super condition, featuring a top paper label as well as a side label from an Austin, TX store. An exceptional combination". This auction is for a vintage wooden tackle box completely loaded with old early lures and tackle. The names of the lures include HEDDON, CREEK CHUB , HELIN , SOUTH BEND , PFLUEGER , MAKINEN , SHUR STRIKE, and several unknown. The box also includes a nice array of old metal lures with names like HEDDON , HENDRYX , PFLUEGER , H & J , SHANNON , AL FOSS , ARBOGAST , GM SKINNER , SOUTH BEND, and many unknown. There's two reels in the box. The first is a SOUTH BEND #70 with bag. It looks to be in good condition. The other reel is a WESTERN PELICAN V482 nickel plated level wind reel with box. This reel seems to work fine. It needs some cleaning. The reel box is kind of batterd up from storage. There is a LANGLEY DE-LIAR scales , old floats and bobbers , partial bottle of Pflueger speed oil , wooden hand line , 21" take down gaff hook with box , old ice pick with leather holster , wooden tubes of Pflueger hooks , 1939 New York state Fish and Game Laws Syllabus , and many other assorted hooks , sinkers , and other tackle items. The condition of the lures ranges from well fished to excellent and everything in between. There's some very old lures in the box. Most are wood with many of them having glass eyes. The box measures about 15 3/4" long by about 9" wide by about 11" tall The box is in very good shape inside. The outside has some scuffs, scrapes and shows wear from normal use. The latch and hinges are very good and it closes nice and straight. There's loads and loads of history in this old box. This is a huge group of lures and tackle so if I've missed anything or if you have any questions, just let me know. Low starting price with no reserve.
