Here's a rare one - a Tarpon in Special color Day-N-Nite - and in the box with papers!!!

The lure is 6 1/2" long. Condition is excellent overall, with some age cracks & light dings. Right glass eye is fine but the left one is cracked.

Color paper catalog has a stain & is faded from some mildew, but may be cleanable - I don't know the process. No tears or rips though, and it's legible all around.

There's also a Creek Chub order blank, which is in good shape - soiled from being in the box, but no rips or tears.

Box is in good shape with light soil inside & out. There is some paper wear here & there, but all seams & corners are tight, with none broken or worn through. Boxtop end is marked Special C.C.B. Co. Lure, No. 4021.
I think the rub was done at the factory. You can determine that yourself. This is a tough punkinseed in this color and would be a great addition to anyone's collection.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of different fishing tackle lures on the market today. Some are very effective at getting those bass, trout, walleye or other fish to bite while others don't do much to attract anything at all. Choosing the right type of fishing tackle lures can mean the difference between success and failure when it comes to catching your dinner.

To understand why some fishing lures work and others don't you need to know a little about how fish locate and are attracted to their food source. This is really quite simple, fish find their prey in two ways by sight and by sound. They also tend to go after a prey that seems to set itself apart and is easy prey. What does all this mean when choosing the right lures. Simply put, it means that the lure you choose must first gain the attention of the fish either because it is easy to see or because it has a sound that will attract the fish. Second, the closer your lure looks to natural food the more likely they are to be attracted to your lure.

A Look At Different types of Lures

Now that you know how fish are attracted to tackle lures, let's take a look at a few different types of tackle lures and see exactly why they are attractive to various fish.

Glow Lures- can be found in both soft and hard lures. Basically, there are various types of glow lures and the colors that are displayed run the entire gambit. While glow lures can and do attract fish, not all glow lures are equal. Fish tend to focus on their prey's eyes. So choosing a glow lure with large eyes with the glowing part of the lure in the eye area will result in attracting more fish than a lure whose glow is in the tail section of the lure. In addition, some colors of glow lures attract more fish than other. Red glows look gray to the fish whereas, a blue or a green glow seems to be more eye catching for fish looking for food.

Willow blade and round blade spinnerbait are excellent lures for shallower water and surface fishing. The willow blade spinnerbait will attract the fish by sight. If the fish can see this bait they are likely to grab for it. However, in deeper water where this lure is not easily seen by the fish it is better to use a round blade spinnerbait as the rounded blade makes a distinct sound that can attract and lure the fish to the sound.

Hula Poppers attract by both sight and sound. The sound this lure makes attracts the fishes attention while the bubble trail and the dancing hula skirt attracts their eye. Many bass fisherman like the hula popper because they find it useful both in shallow and deeper water.

Crankbait resembles crawdads or bait fish both of which are attractive to bass and other kinds of fish. This lure is ideal for deeper water and is sure to lure those out from under those rocks and fallen logs where they are hiding.

There are many other different kinds of fishing tackle lures that are attractive to fish and can help increase your chances of catching that big one. The few lures mentioned here are just a few of the many lures available.

Bibless wooden lures are an amazing addition to any lure fishing tacklebox. They have an enourmous amount going for them, whether you are a saltwater or a sweetwater exponent. Bibless wooden lures fill many of the gaps left by more traditional wooden lures, allowing you to reach more fish under more conditions than ever before. Don't leave home without them.

Our tenth style of wooden lure (and the second to last in this series) is also one of my favourites - bibless wooden lures.

Of course, the name describes the main feature of this style of wooden fishing lure. Bibless wooden lures are designed to perform their task without plastic or metal bib sticking out to make them wiggle. That doesn't mean they don't wiggle though, far from it in fact! But the way they achieve their swimming action doesn't require a bib.

One of the great advantage of making some bibless wooden lures is that they are often used in very different ways than other wooden lures, which gives you a whole bunch more fishing options. To be clear, bibless wooden lures will often catch fish at times and in ways that bibbed lures can't. The reverse is also true, however! You need both styles of lure in your arsenal, or you'll be missing out on a lot of fish!

The action of bibless wooden lures is quite different to bibbed lures, so give this a go: shake your head as you would if you were saying "no" to someone. That side to side wiggle is like a bibbed lure. Next, tilt your head to your left shoulder, then to the right shoulder and back again. That's more like the action that a bibless lure exhibits. While the difference seems subtle, it make a huge difference in the function and fish catching ability of bibless lures, as you are about to find out!

Advantages of using bibless wooden lures

There is definitely a lot to like about bibless lures.

One of the main advantages of bibless wooden lures is that they can be very stable in the water. This means that they don't tend to blow out as much as standard bibbed lures when the cranking or trolling speeds get a little high? In fact, trolling or cranking speeds in excess of 15 knots are achievable with good design. This is especially good for sea fisherman, who travel long distances between spots and can give themselves a good chance of picking up some pelagics along the way, without slowing their travel down too much.

Because they don't require a large surface area to create action (like bibbed lures do), bibless lures create a lot less weight on the rod tip during fishing, which contributes to the ability to use them at relatively high speeds and makes them a lot less tiring on the arms and shoulders during a long fishing session.

One of the things that contribute to the stability is the usually tight and fast action of bibless lures (although they can also be designed for much slower work). Fast action causes vibrations that closely mimic fleeting, panicky baitfish, which is a veritable magnet for predatory fish, which are constantly on the alert for this kind of vibration. And because most bibless wooden lures are deep bodied, flat sided and chunky lures they shift a lot of water with every beat of their unique side to side action, which means the vibrations are strong and hard for predators to miss.

The powerful action and great stability give bibless wooden lures still one more important characteristic: more grunt than a warthog in mating season! You can load bibless lures up with much heavier duty hooks, with big rattles or even some internal weight without dampening the action as much as for bibbed lures. This makes them a great option for pulling fish out of heavy cover, as you can really beef up the terminals

Because bibless lures have less wind resistance and slightly more weight, they tend to cast better than most other wooden lures, too. And they can even be dropped to the bottom and worked back up vertically, as jigs.

Limitations of bibless wooden lures

This was the hardest part of this article to write, because bibless lures have so much going for them and are very difficult to fault. I suppose the major limitation is that the vast majority of bibless lures are sinking lures, which means that they can't be floated under overhanging banks or branches, pontoons and the like.

They are probably less suited to applications where fish might be feeding on crustaceans or on baitfish that are slower moving, which strong side to side actions - they are much better at imitating faster moving bait, as a rule.

When to use bibless wooden lures

Both fresh and saltwater applications

Excellent for fast trolling or cranking and for fishing in strong currents

Great where herring or shad are the primary bait species, as the deep body of a bibless lure is a good representation of baitfish of this shape

Perfect for dropping into deeper water and jigging back to the surface.

Can be fitted with heavy duty terminals, so they are a good choice for extracting fish from heavy cover.

So what are the top fishing reel parts you can buy to improve your fishing abilities? There are some extremely important things and factors you have to keep in mind when looking for this. Hopefully this info will help get you on the right track.

The right fishing reel parts are essential to becoming an effective fishermen. Again, as I've often stated before, without having the right equipment necessary, you can never be as effective fishermen as you otherwise might. No matter how good of a fishermen you might be, without utilizing good equipment, you can never achieve your full potential. Hopefully these fishing reel and miscellaneous fishing equipment tips will help you find the top equipment to take your skills to the next level.

As fly fishing is one of the most popular and fastest-growing forms of fishing in the world, the need for good fly fishing reels is becoming more and more important, particularly among avid fisherman who do it in tournaments and competition. Quite simply, one of the most important components of it is the fishing reel parts. Most new fishermen who first go to a sporting goods store will generally be shocked at how many fly fishing reel models there are available for sale; this number is growing seemingly each and every day. Also, with the wide assortment of antique fishing reel parts is growing as well, this simply further adds to the confusion.

The reel is extremely crucial, because its' size determines how much control you will have over the line when you're fishing. Remember, the most crucial thing to decide beforehand is to match up the reel with the individual fisherman's needs and fishing style. As with the fishing lure and tackle, this will be different depending on what kind of fish you are going after, and where you plan and fishing.

Remember, there are different kinds of fishing reel parts that have different line sizes, and picking the right one is critical. Some also give you a full rotation with just simply one crank the handle, while others will give you more rotations of the real with just one term. Another huge factor to consider is the size of the center of the reel, which is known as the arbor.

This is crucial, because it is the determining factor as to how easy it is to reel in the fish once they've gone for the bait. Remember, it is one thing the catch of fish on your line; it's quite another to actually get them into the boat. A lot of things can go wrong between the time the fish is caught him a line in the time they are brought into the boat.

Here's some important information to remember in order to keep your fishing real in tip top shape from season to season. First of all, wipe it down. After every fishing outing, always take just a minute or two to wipe your fishing reel parts with a clean cloth, which will help to get out any dirt or sand that might have gotten inside there.

If you don't do this, over time this will build up inside and cause a lot of problems your fishing real. It is absolutely crucial your fishing reel stays in tip top shape, and this is an important tip to making sure it stays that way.

Also, changing your line is very important, because the fresher the line is, the less resistance it will provide for the fishing reel. Also, generally speaking, the longer line that is used, the more will coil, and therefore the weaker it will be.

Also, annually you should take apart your fishing reel and clean and grease the whole thing. This is a very simple step, but it is one that many fishermen fail to do.

It will generally only take you about an hour to do all of your fishing reel parts, but it will add years to the life of your fishing reel. Finally, if you are ever looking for fishing reel repair tips, you can either go down to your local fishing shop and have them do it, or find some information on it and do it yourself. Being able to do it yourself is probably the best way, because if something ever goes wrong with your reel out on the water, being able to do it on your own is a huge skill to have. Follow these tips, and you will find the right fishing reel for your individual use, and once you have it, be able to maintain and use it for years to come.

I was raised on a cattle ranch in Southern Idaho, and we were lucky enough to have two nice fishing streams course through our property. I became an avid trout fisherman early in my child hood, and have continued to enjoy the sport since that time. Fishing tackle and lures are a hobby interest of mine, and I want to share some information about wood fishing lures.

I own a veterinary practice, and when I get the chance to take a day off, I am lucky to be within an hour drive of good trout or walleye fishing. Southern Idaho has many reservoirs and lakes that are well stocked with trout. Walleye are plentiful in two local reservoirs, and they represent a great game fish. I first became interested in wood fishing lures as a collectable hobby. While browsing Sportsman's Warehouse one day, I noticed a group of wood fishing lure kits, and also a sampling of finished wood lures that were locked under the glass display case sporting a hefty price tag.

The finished lures were stunning in their detail and their price too! Each tiny scale and detail had been meticulously painted on these beautiful lures. The kits were inexpensive, but I knew right away, there was no way I would have the time or patience to make a decent wood fishing lure from scratch. Anyway, several months later I was selling an old rifle at a pawn shop, and happened upon a hand painted wood lure and I bought it for a keep sake. Once again, the details of this lure really caught my interest and eye.

I did some research about wood lures, and discovered that many fishing experts consider wood to be one of the most desirable and effective materials for making lures. Wooden lures have better buoyancy and a proper density that helps attain better vibration sounds in water, and more natural movement in the water. The detail on these lures also closely mimics the natural look of bait that fish are attracted to. These qualities make a wood fishing lure an excellent way of catching fish. The biggest drawback I saw was the price! Handmade lures run around $50. Making my own lures is an option, but time and lack of skill are the obstacles there.

I came across a company that now offers a wood fishing lure line for around $10 a piece. This was affordable for me, and allowed me to try them out with good results. I selected a package that would work well for trout lures, and found them to be good quality and very fishable. I would recommend any avid fisherman should give these a try in a lake or reservoir setting. They are a great lure to troll with, and I have had excellent results hooking fish with them.

In conclusion, wood fishing lures are both a great collector item for your display case and an excellent trout fishing lure that is affordable from NGC sports.
